Glossybox September 2012

So this was the second last box that Glossybox offered at $15. Last week all the subscribers received an email saying they’re increasing the price to $21!! That’s a crazy increase from $15! Current subscribers get the October box at $15 and after that it will also increase to $21 for them.

It’s very irritating because of the fact that GB’s items seems to be going down in value as time goes by. The amount of drugstore brands will be a big part of this company’s boxes too from what I can see. Paying $21 a month for drugstore brands seems pretty crazy.

Glymm had an increase from $10 to $12 but current subscribers got to stay at $10. Luxebox went from $12 to $26 every 3 months. After my last $15 box I’m going to be cancelling my Glossybox, sadly =

Glossybox Canada June 2012

I saw many bloggers from US showing what they got in their Glossy Box and I was jealous to say the least. They received brands like AmorePacific, Burberry, and Zoya. Someone tweeted me when I mentioned that on Twitter. They said it’s the first box for US so it would probably be great and asked if what we’ve been getting in the Canadian one was bad. I never thought what Glossy Box Canada had put out was bad until this box.

I opened my box and instantly frowned. What is this?? All I could see was drugstore brands staring back at me.

Gillette Venus // Embrace Razor

Bioré // Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

[[ Pore strips are the deepest way to clean your pores. In just one use, you remove a week’s worth of built up dirt – and it only takes 10 minutes (isn’t that great?!) ]]
Full Size: 8ct/$9.99 || Received: 1ct/$1.25 (BONUS ITEM)

When you think about it, it can be counted as a good deal since we get 4 full sized items. The problem is that these subscription boxes are supposed to let us try out higher end brands before purchasing. All the items aside from one is available at drugstores and relatively cheap enough for us to try them out without the help of these boxes. Not to mention the fact that I got the Olay and Gillette products in Loose Buttons and was already not impressed. Overlapping of products can be expected when you subscribe to more than one of these beauty boxes but to get a bunch of drugstore brands again kind of sucks. If this was my first box, like it was for a lot of people, I would be rethinking my subscription.

Estimated Value: $61.04

I will give a review of the items as I try them out. Check back for them! If you’re interested in signing up please consider using my link ::heart2::!

GlossyBox Canada April 2012 Products Review

Aveeno // Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer
[[ This amazing moisturizing formula is clinically shown to improve the look of tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness, and brown spots – for naturally radiant skin. — 120ml/$22.99 ]]

I find that the formula is a bit like sunscreen (yes there’s SPF 15 in it) which makes it a tad harder to spread on the face. My mom actually sometimes buys an Aveeno moisturizer that comes in a jar which I occasionally use when winter got the best of me. I found that it was really rich – too rich, in fact, for daily wear. I was afraid this would be a same. I ended up liking it. It’s not overly rich but keeps my face hydrated without a layer of fat on top. I’m glad because my face is sensitive to overly rich moisturizers and I would get bumps on my face ::GAHH::. Great morning moisturizer. Oh, and it’s unscented for those that are sensitive to scents.

Likes: moisturizing without being overly rich, has SPF even though it could be higher for the face.
Dislikes: wish it was a bit more liquidy.

Elizabeth Grant // Skin Care Shower Gel
[[ Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Shower Gels are delightful fragrant cleansing gels, which foam as you clean. Capturing the true essence of grace, style and individuality in every person. — 240ml/$20.00 ]]

I received Madagascar Vanilla in my box. I’ve mentioned before that I enjoy using shower gels a lot more than soap bars. Mostly because I feel like soap bars strip too much of our natural oils and I find it a bit unsanitary. I noticed that people who received Golden Angel received their bottle with a pump while the rest of us has a normal screw top. I wish mine came with one since the ones on their site comes with a pump. Curious as to why the rest of ours don’t have a pump?? Ah well, since I can just pour it into a bottle that does.

Smelling the gel out of the bottle the scent seems quite strong which I like in bath products. I like smelling the scent while lathering on the skin during my shower and then having a light smell linger on the skin afterwards. Oddly enough, I don’t smell of the scent on my skin after my shower. Was a bit disappointed in that. I also noticed the formula is a bit on the liquidy side. It doesn’t provide much of a lather. With that said, I have read that foamy products have more harmful chemicals so I guess it’s a good thing. I just like my gels more soapy haha ::nervous::.

Likes: pleasant smell, doesn’t dry out my skin.
Dislikes: doesn’t leave much of a scent on body afterwards, not foamy enough for me.

Wella // Brilliance Conditioner (Fine to Normal)
[[ This lightweight Brilliance conditioner moisturizes coloured hair, leaving even fine hair full of vibrant shine and free-flowing movement. With diamond dust! — 250ml/$13.99 ]]

I was a bit surprised when I used this conditioner. It’s not as creamy as conditioners usually are. When I put it in my hair, it doesn’t feel as if I even applied any conditioner at all. As cool as it sounds that it contains diamond dust I don’t actually feel like that really helps with anything.

Likes: None.
Dislikes: Formula doesn’t help my hair at all. No difference compared to some drugstore brands.

Wella // Brilliance Treatment (Fine to Normal)
[[ Brilliance Treatment with triple-blend technology blends three lightweight polymers to instantly restore hair’s vibrancy, … and you guess it: With diamond dust! — 150ml/$13.99 ]]

The first time I didn’t put enough so there was no difference after using it. I don’t have thick hair so usually a small amount of product works for my hair. The second time I used it my hair was really soft after using the treatment. I don’t know if I really left it on for 3-5 minutes but either way, it works. Just be sure to coat enough on your hair! I’m really tempted to try out the Kao Essential Treatment to see how it compares to this one.

Likes: Hair feels really soft after using the treatment.
Dislikes: Doesn’t seem to be a long-term effect.

Marcelle // Xtension Plus Mascara
[[ NEW! Give your lashes extra length and curl with Marcelle XTension Plus Mascara. Define and separate lashes while minimizing clumps and create maximum lengthening potential for a lash-extension look without adding extensions. — 9ml/$12.50 ]]

The Xtension mascara comes with a plastic comb that has a bunch of bristles. Just looking at the brush I would assume it would do some crazy lengthening with my lashes. Using it, however, was a different story. I curled my lashes with my Shiseido lash curler and then applied this on. It definitely looked very natural because there wasn’t any clumping. It didn’t do any lengthening though! Any lengthening was minimal and the odd thing was I felt like it was either weighing my lashes down or undoing whatever curl my curler had done!

On a side note, I always use waterproof mascara because when I don’t I get panda eyes. This one isn’t waterproof so I wouldn’t keep it for myself anyway even if it worked wonders for my lashes ::>_o::. It’s very easy to take off with water though in case anyone is wondering.

Marcelle // BB Cream Beauty Balm
[[ NEW! Marcelle BB Cream: Try the 1st BB Cream formulated especially for Canadian women! Your 8-in-1 skin enhancer does it all for you, instantly! Offered in 2 shades with self-adjusting pigments to suit all ages and skin types. — 45ml/$22.95 ]]
I’ve read about how a lot of Western version of BB creams are not up to par with Asian BB creams so I was very curious about about them. I got the Light to Medium shade. Like the Asian ones it is able to adjust to our skin tone. I like how it wasn’t really thick. I’ve tried a lot of BB creams where it feels very thick on the face. I am very acne-prone so having such a thick layer on my face makes me break out in a couple of hours. Of course, having combination skin I oil up pretty quickly too and it just creates a mess. With that said, this one doesn’t seem to be any problem for my skin ::sparkle::.

It provides a bit of coverage for the face – not as little as some tinted moisturizers but enough for people that don’t need too much coverage. I think it lasts a fair amount of time too. I would need to blot after a couple of hours but I’m not at the oil slick phase though! I’m pretty impressed.

Likes: Not heavy – pretty lightweight, a fair amount of coverage, adjusts to skin tone, decent oil control.
Dislike: None.

GlossyBox Canada April 2012 Unboxing

The heavier weight of the box was, again, one of the first things I noticed when I took it out. Since last time that ended up being a good box I took it as a good thing. April’s box wasn’t bad either.

GB had put up a clue for us on Facebook since they were late again in sending out the boxes. I instantly knew it was a Wella product because I noticed that almost all the boxes for Canadians have included this product at least once. People that knew it was a Wella product seemed upset, but I’m guessing this is because they’ve received it before. I’ve never tried their products so I’m going to have to see if I enjoy the two products they included this box.

Aveeno // Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer
[[This amazing moisturizing formula is clinically shown to improve the look of tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness, and brown spots – for naturally radiant skin. — 120ml/$22.99]]

The lotion they included in the last box was nice so I’m excited to see how this would work for me. It contains SPF 15 too so I can use it in the morning. I don’t think any of my products right now have SPF in it (I know.. so bad for my skin, right?). Full size product.

Elizabeth Grant // Skin Care Shower Gel
[[Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Shower Gels are delightful fragrant cleansing gels, which foam as you clean. Capturing the true essence of grace, style and individuality in every person. — 240ml/$20.00]]

I took a sniff and it smells nice ::^^::. I like vanilla scents haha. I took a look at what others have received and some got apricot or coconut. Those ones sound nice too so I think if I received any of those I would’ve been delighted too heh ::heart2::! I’m also glad it’s a shower gel because as I’ve mentioned in the Glymm unboxing I prefer the gels to the bars! It’s also full-sized.

Wella // Brilliance Conditioner (Fine to Normal)
[[This lightweight Brilliance conditioner moisturizes coloured hair, leaving even fine hair full of vibrant shine and free-flowing movement. With diamond dust! — 250ml/$13.99]]

Nice amount of product to try out unlike the Free Your Mane one we got in Glymm. Always look for a good shampoo/conditioner for my dead hair ::>_o::. We receive 30ml in our sample.

Wella // Brilliance Treatment (Fine to Normal)
[[Brilliance Treatment with triple-blend technology blends three lightweight polymers to instantly restore hair’s vibrancy, … and you guess it: With diamond dust! — 150ml/$13.99]]

I do have some hair masks at home to try out but I haven’t gotten around to doing them yet but, again, I welcome these hair products since my hair needs some help haha! The smell of it kind of resembles Kao Essential’s shampoo. We get 25ml.

Marcelle // Xtension Plus Mascara
[[NEW! Give your lashes extra length and curl with Marcelle XTension Plus Mascara. Define and separate lashes while minimizing clumps and create maximum lengthening potential for a lash-extension look without adding extensions. — 9ml/$12.50]]

I’m kind of nervous about trying this out! I always have to wear waterproof mascaras because they smudge like crazy on me. I get panda eyes within a couple of hours or something. I’ve seen Marcelle around at the drugstores but I never tried them out because their section never seems really exciting. Hope this exceeds my expectations! Another full-sized item ::kitty::.

Marcelle // BB Cream Beauty Balm
[[NEW! Marcelle BB Cream: Try the 1st BB Cream formulated especially for Canadian women! Your 8-in-1 skin enhancer does it all for you, instantly! Offered in 2 shades with self-adjusting pigments to suit all ages and skin types. — 45ml/$22.95]]

We got BB Cream for a bonus item! I’ve never tried any of the western brand’s BB creams yet since they’re known for being more of a tinted moisturizer than an actual BB cream. However, I enjoyed the M. Asam one I got from Glymm so I’m excited to see how this one is. There’s only 1ml for this sample. PS. The girl they got to model for their BB cream looks pretty cute haha!

Aveeno Moisturizer – $22.99
Elizabeth Grant Shower Gel – $20.00
Wella Conditioner – $1.68
Wella Treatment – $2.33
Marcelle Mascara – $12.50
*Marcelle BB Cream – $0.51
Estimated Value // $59.50 (*$60.01)

Overall, pretty good box. We got 3 full-sized items and they weren’t useless full-sized items haha! I’ll be putting up a review of the items in the last box really soon. Already finished typing up half of the post ::bunneh::. If you’re interested in subscribing, please consider using my link ::heart2::!
