Skinfood Honey Moisture Gel 90 Review

Product Description

A moisturizing gel with 90% honey extract to hydrate sensitive, dry chapped skin. Gives rough skin nutrition and glow.

I’ve been using a few drugstore brands for moisturizers for a bit as I felt like I was spending too much for daytime moisturizers lately. I would rather spend a little more for my night regime than my morning since I put makeup on top of it. I tried out two Olay moisturizers but didn’t like either of them very much. In case anyone was wondering, it was the Olay Moisturizing Lotion Sensitive Skin and Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream, which started to dry up and flake on my skin (EEKS!). I decided to switch back to Asian brands because Olay was failing me.

I’ve mentioned before that I like when products have a more natural ingredients list because my skin is quite sensitive and acne prone. Honey is known to have many benefits for our skin including: being naturally antibacterial, provides moisture, and helps sooth our skin. Skinfood claims that this product contains 90% honey extract! Had to give that a try after seeing that in the product description.

First off, I would like to note that I don’t think the Honey Moisture Gel 90 is only meant for a face moisturizer. It’s basically meant for all body use. Which would explain the big size! I didn’t pay close attention to the size so when I received the product, I was surprised by how big the container was. Probably around the same size as the The Body Shop’s body butters. Which means, if you love it, this is great news LOL! Or if you don’t like it on your face, you can use it on the rest of your body :p.

I decided to go with a gel moisturizer this time around because I felt like I was starting to break out from the heavier creams I used during winter. Apparently adding face oils to my regime every night was too much for my skin to handle. The problem with gel moisturizers usually is that they are not moisturizing enough for most skin types – unless you have oily skin. I was hoping the honey extract would help in this particular problem. The texture of it is similar to other gel moisturizers. What makes it different is the slightly tacky feel. It applies on smooth, but after application if you lightly tap your face, there is a slight tackiness to it. Not enough to really bother me, but it does exist initially.

However, if you give the product some time to settle into the skin, I actually quite like it. It makes my skin feel quite moisturized, but not overly so where I feel like my face is a bucket of oil. I think if you expect it to be super moisturizing you’d be sadly disappointed. This is great for people with slightly oily skin or combination skin. If you have dry skin, I suggest that you stay away LOL! It is a good choice for the summer when you need a little bit of moisture without it irritating your skin as you sweat from the heat outside. It also hasn’t bothered my acne-prone skin so that’s always a plus!

I have not used it on the rest of my body so I cannot comment on that, but I think I’d usually prefer something more moisturizing for the rest of my body.

It doesn’t smell like honey to me, but there is a slight scent. Nothing overwhelming or distinct though.

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer Review

Product Description

This lightweight, oil-free facial cream is fortified with legendary skin-boosters like panax ginseng and coffee bean to jumpstart hydration levels. Lackluster-looking skin is rapidly refreshed and revitalized to create a healthy, vibrant glow.

Hello readers! Haven’t done a post for a while, hey? Being out of the house almost everyday during holidays and then school starting right after didn’t exactly make me want to sit and do a review haha.

But today I bring you another Origins review! This time on their GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer. So it contains two ingredients that are supposed to brighten up your face and not make you look as tired as you really are (Mondays, am I right?). Those two ingredients are coffee beans and ginseng. I’ve actually never used coffee beans in a moisturizer to brighten up my face. I have used it as a DIY exfoliater though. FYI, don’t do it, it’s too rough on the skin and made my skin really sensitive!!

GinZing reminds me of Skinfood’s Lettuce & Cucumber Moisturizer. A light gel, that instantly dissolves when you apply to your face. It faces a similar problem that I had with Skinfood’s moisturizer, it’s not enough to moisturize my face. Much better suited to summer-use than winter. I love that it seems to sink into my skin really quickly so that I don’t feel like I have a vat of oil on my face the whole day. The only thing is that the moisture doesn’t seem to be a long-term thing.

This is great for people with oily skin because if your skin feels like it’s not hydrated enough, it will produce extra oil. Being able to apply moisturizer that gives you the barely there feel will keep your skin hydrated, and informing your skin to not produce extra oil. However, I have combination skin and I do have dry spots on my face, especially during winter. Don’t even get me started on how the icy winds cause havoc on my skin!! If you have dry skin and it’s the winter time, you might not want to pick up this moisturizer unless you add some face oil to it.

What I love about this moisturizer though is the smell and feeling when you it on! Citrusy – like when you peel an orange. You know that smell that wafts into the air when you feel an orange? That’s what I feel like as I’m applying it to my face! Love!! And it has a bit of a cooling sensation too which is nice as a morning moisturizer to wake up you and your skin. Probably feels even nicer during the summer time?

The moisturizer comes in a heavy glass bottle. I really like it! The box, like other Origins products, is very simple – almost medicinal looking. Not really a big fan on that, but I usually recycle the outer cardboard box after I take out the product anyways so it doesn’t matter much to me.

So I recommend this product for anyone looking for a really light moisturizer – especially anyone with oily skin. Not oily, spreads great. It smells great and feels great on the skin. Not a lasting moisturizing effect if you have dry skin. Would I repurchase? I actually might during the summer when I’m feeling the most oily.

Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream Review

Product Description

Containing arbutin and the extracts of Omega 3-rich salmon roe produced in Hokkaido, Japan, this eye cream brightens and relieves dark circles around the eyes.

I have the worst dark circles. Even with concealer, it is barely hidden. Without concealer I look like a panda bear. So I figure the only real way to fix this is to actually find a way to lighten up the dark circles instead of just concealing it.

Skinfood’s Salmon Brightening Eye Cream uses arbutin and salmon roe extract to brighten. When I opened the jar I expected a creamier formula. Instead, I was met with a more solid formula. It softens up with a touch, but stays solid in the jar.

The formula is quite light. I can feel the product after I apply but it quickly gets absorbed by my skin. It provides moisture, but nothing long term. I also haven’t seen any difference in my skin when it comes to brightening.

Not a bad eye moisturizer, but probably better choices out there. It didn’t provide me with a long-term results when it comes to moisturizing, nor did it seem to have brighten up my dark circles much.

LUSH Celestial Facial Moisturizer Review

Redness. Stinging. Irritation. Sound familiar? Having sensitive skin can be incredibly frustrating (even painful!), which is why we invented our most gentle moisturizer, Celestial. With its creamy cocoa butter base, Celestial effectively moisturizes without irritating ingredients like citrus oils or alcohol. We blend vanilla water, to help the skin retain its moisture, with hydrating almond milk and fresh dove orchid extract to keep delicate skin in soft, glowing condition. Celestial also doubles as a fantastically softening night cream for all skin types.

Ever since June I’ve been on medication that has made my skin extremely dry and sensitive. I needed a moisturizer that was able to actually help my face stay moisturized throughout the day. I find that the ones I were using would only work for the 1-2 hours after I applied it. When I came home from school or work, my face was back to being dry – or worse, flakey. However, my skin was also becoming sensitive due to the medication so things that didn’t seem to bother it before, seemed to suddenly start making me break out! I decided that I had to start using more natural products to see if it would make a difference.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the jar was the fact that the formula wasn’t as thick as I thought it would be. I was afraid that if the formula had a thinner consistency, it wouldn’t give me the moisture I need. I was wrong on that though! A little of this actually goes a long way. Be sure not to just plop a whole glob on your face ::^^::. If you have oily skin it will look very greasy on your face if you do this.

I think this moisturizer is best suited for people with dry skin. For people who have combination skin, it might be a bit greasy in the oilier areas. It does not absorb quickly so be sure to apply it earlier on when you’re getting ready to go out! If you put on primer and foundation it works well to provide a hydrated base for your skin. It mentions that it’ll work great as a night cream, which I agree. You don’t have to be as careful about how much you’re applying since you’re just going to sleep. It’s definitely thick enough to act as a night cream.

Overall I quite like the moisturizer, but the drawback is the longer wait for it to absorb. Also, the moisturizing effect doesn’t last me as long as I’d like, but that might be because of the medication I’m taking which dries up my oil glands. However, LUSH products are pretty natural, the girl helping me out said that their products contain less than 1% preservatives/additives. So if you’re looking for more natural skincare, you might want to give it a try.

As an aside LUSH offers a recycling award program. The container for this moisturizer is included in the program. Bring back 5 and you get a face mask for free!
