Current Obsessions — March 2014

Blogilates

Last year, during the summer time, I decided to go jogging to get into shape. I’ve always been skinny so I was never motivated to work out like my other friends who were using workout sessions to trim down. On top of that, I was afraid of losing weight if I started working out. In order to maintain my weight or increase it, I’d have to probably double my calories intake. Even some of my friends were telling me I might get even skinnier if I worked out.. and I already have people telling me that I need to gain more weight. PS. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate skinny shaming? Yes, it is just as bad as fat shaming someone. Especially if you’re skinny shaming to defend someone with a “naturally curvy” body.

Anyway, I decided to go jogging anyway despite risking some weight loss in order to get a bit healthier. I don’t want to go to the gym and plus it’s summer time and I thought I should enjoy it. I’d wake up at around 9AM-10AM to go for a jog. I’m sure everyone knows how painful it is to get started. You feel like you’re dying and you need a break every minute LOL. I always went in the morning even when the sun was blazing and I feel like I’m going to burn. I just knew that if I tell myself I’d go later in the evening, I would probably be too lazy to push myself to go. Over time I got a bit better and I would be able to run for a bit longer before slowing down for some speed walking in between to catch my breath.

School came and with it also came the cold weather and I stopped going out for jogs. I totally let myself get back to my original state LOL. A couple times I tried out yoga at home so that I had something to do for fall/winter. It was too slow for me though. I can’t just stay in positions and just breathe. I felt like I needed something a bit more active. I was telling my friend this and she suggested that I try out blogilates. Been trying it for a couple days now and I’m making it my goal to finish this whole calendar.

I did day 1 of her January workout calendar before realizing she had a beginner’s calendar. Switched over and did 3 days of it and then my right arm started hurting like hell. My body wasn’t used to it yet and my right arm is super weak (I’m left-handed). I seriously could not even readjust my backpack’s strap when I put it on because bending my arm at a certain height felt like I tearing my muscles apart while pain shoot up and down my arm. I wasn’t sure if I should just power through it or take a rest day because I know that it’s inevitable my body would be sore. It shouldn’t be hurting THAT much though. So I took a rest day since my brother (who worked out before school got to him too LOL) recommended it. Glad I did because it pretty much felt as good as new the next day, save for a tiny bit of soreness. But I barely felt it unless I was purposely looking for it.

Pretty excited! I haven’t been bored yet since she has a different video for each thing you’re focusing on that day (eg. total body, abs, etc.). And since she has so many videos she kind of switches it around a bit too. Cassey has a great personality so it’s fun following along. I think pilates helps keep my mind off things better than yoga since I’m actively doing something. I can concentrate on the workout as opposed to tuning in to my breathing and letting go of whatever is on my mind, you know? Time just flies by and before you know it, you finish a 30 minute workout.

Apple Cider Vinegar

What? You’re into vinegar this month, Carmen? But why?! Well I’ve mentioned multiple times that I have always been battling with acne all my life. I used to be able to keep my acne at bay with skincare items targeted towards problem skin. However two years ago it suddenly took a took for the worse and I was hit with terrible cystic acne. That’s when I went on medication because nothing else would work anymore.

It worked and my skin was clear; everyone had complimented how nice my skin looked. However, a couple months passed by and suddenly I began having some flare ups again. It was not as bad, but I would get tiny little cystic acne around my mouth. Since it was around my mouth they would be red since it’s in sensitive area. Looked horrible since you can’t even hide it when it’s around your mouth. Not only that, my skin would get extremely dry in that area because it is trying to heal.

One day I somehow stumbled upon some YouTube videos talking about how apple cider vinegar helped clear up their cystic acne. A lot of them had really bad cystic acne and after one to two months, it seemed to have cleared it all up and prevented future ones from appearing. I quickly ordered a bottle to give it a try. Note to anyone wanting to try too, it should be raw, unfiltered ACV. Bragg seems to be the brand that everyone recommends.

If you live in Canada, give Well.ca a try! Really quick shipping and someone always hand writes a “Thank you” on your receipt ::^^:: . My results? I haven’t taken it for a month yet, so I’m a ‘still in progress’ with this. However, just from the first night, around 80% of the tiny little cystic acne around my mouth disappeared. I thought it was a fluke. How could it work so quickly?! But it’s true! I should note, however, that my skin isn’t 100% clear right now and new ones have still been popping up here and there. But it would disappear within one to three days. There would be some days where my skin would be perfectly clear.

The recommended way to use it, is to drink it. I’m going to tell you right now, this stuff stinks! The smell is extremely strong!! With that said, you do not drink this stuff straight. Around 1 tbsp to 2 tbsp in a water bottle to dilute it. Some people say that you can try sweetening it with honey, but honestly, I don’t feel like it makes much of a difference. Just plug your nose and chug it because the smell is gross.

Some people have also been using it as a toner. Use a 1:1 ratio – 1 part ACV, 1 part water. If it’s too much for you, feel free to do 1:2 or 1:3 instead. I haven’t tried this method out myself… mostly because of the smell LOL. But if any of you do, please let me know how it works for you!

Current Obsessesions April 2013

My friends all know that I am not exactly a vegetable lover. Sometimes I enjoy eating a nice salad. When there’s vegetables in my food, I still eat it. I’m not going to go out of my way to avoid it, but I’m not exactly one to scream for joy when it comes to vegetables either. I know I’m not getting the amount of greens in my diet that I should though. In in effort to increase my daily intake, I thought I should try to do so in a way that I would enjoy. There are two things I really like: drinking stuff and fruits LOL!

I’ve just been really into green smoothies lately. They’re healthy and taste like fruit smoothies so it masks the taste of vegetables. Plus, I always love making smoothies and slush so it just makes sense haha. I’ll be posting the recipes I’ve tried out so far that I enjoy soon. No sugar, just naturally sweetened by the fruits in the recipe!

Okay, so.. I’ve mentioned before that I’m guilty of watching trashy reality shows. I know, I know, stop tsking me already ::tear::. The other day when I was scrolling through Tumblr (instead of studying, shhh) I saw this photo set on my dashboard. It made me laugh and I saw the hashtag Duck Dynasty at the bottom. It made me curious so I searched it up thinking it was a TV show that would mimic the style of The Office. Nope, it was a reality show. One about red necks at that!

I thought, what the hell, why not give it a try? …I do not regret my decision LOL! I know usually guys hate watching reality shows for whatever reason, but I think they’ll probably enjoy at least this one. They just say so many hilarious things LOL! Basically it’s about a red neck family that became rich from selling duck calls and building a whole empire around it. The thing is that while the CEO of Duck Commander (their company) is a man of business, all his family wants to do is hunt, with work being the last thing on their minds. Try it out, don’t knock it till you try it ::^^:: !!

What products have I been obsessed with lately? Face oils! I received a Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil sample in my Glam Bag in January. I started using it soon after because I was actually really curious about Tarte’s Pure Maracuja Oil before that. I was even tempted to purchase the Pure Marajuca Oil when I was asking my American friend to help me purchase some Tarte stuff during their 30% off sale. In the end I didn’t end up ordering it because of multiple reasons.

I was excited to get the Josie Maran sample instead to sort of introduce me to the new trend of using face oils. Recently I ended up purchasing the Tarte one too because I wanted to compare the two of them. These two are the most well-known face oils so it was interesting to see how the two of them perform.

Current Obsessions January 2013

We’re already halfway through the first month of the new year!! Ahh, why is time flying by so fast? I hope school hasn’t killed everyone yet. Everyone this term seemed to have loaded up on a bunch of stressing courses. Lately I’ve been wondering if I should make the blog a bit more personal.

Rather than makeup or fashion this month, I’ve been sort of more obsessed with people LOL ::^^::.

Park Sora

She’s currently a model for Style Nanda – an online Korean clothing store. She has a doll face that I am obsessed with. Just like how I was obsessed with Gemma Ward before her retirement from modelling and her weight gain, Jessica Stam, and Angelababy. And her hairrrr ::lovedrool:: ::sparkle::!!! Major hair envy. If you’re on Tumblr and you follow tumblogs that reblog Asian fashion, you’ve probably stumbled upon pictures of her before!

Jennifer Lawrence

The main actress in Hunger Games! Who doesn’t love her, seriously? She’s so gorgeous, but she’s also so down to earth and hilarious. It’s never a dull moment when I watch her interviews. She’s just one of those girls that I think would be awesome to be friends with.

Tarte // Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer

There has been one product that I’ve been really been liking lately though which is Tarte’s concealer. Went last month to Sephora to see what new concealer I should try and this one had good ratings on the website. It was also one of the concealers the makeup artist at Sephora suggested. I’ll probably do a review on it sometime… soon… hopefully hahaha ::nervous::!!

Current Obsessions October 2012 [Image Heavy]

This is quite early to be making a ‘Current Obsessions’ post; either that or I’m super late since I see that my last one was in May ::blinkblink:: . Let’s just meet in the middle for this and say I’m right on time, hm? I was thinking to myself what I should stock up on this fall/winter for clothes. I find that I’m attracted to the edgy-casual look and the boho-casual (haha I accidentally typed hobo ::GAH::) look. When winter comes, all effort to dress up gets thrown out the window. Why? We wake up to the miserable cold and dark sky and all we want to do is scramble back into bed! Being out in -30°C to -40°C (-22°F to -40°F) weather, the only thing I’m thinking of is keeping my butt warm not how pretty I look with snot coming out of my nose, but I digress. My post wasn’t supposed to be about this ::XO::

I think two brands that are standing out this season is GYDA and Ungrid. They’re quite different from each other, huh? Well that’s me I guess. I can never make up my mind on what image I want LOL!

GYDA

GYDA is based on casual American wear, more specifically LA street style. Yuria Kushido is the producer of the brand. After she graduated high school she went to LA where she studied fashion. The casual but sexy look of LA girls is her inspiration for the line. To look sexy without exposing too much is the aim.

The theme for GYDA this season is Girls with Red Rouge. A more mysterious, sexy look for A/W. I don’t know Japanese so I can’t translate the tidbit very well for the concept this season LOL! I’ll show you the video instead which I’m sure will make more sense.

Honestly when I was looking at their spring/summer stuff I thought it was a bit too simple for my taste. Fall and winter is another story. Edgy but casual – don’t want to step on the goth territory!

Ungrid

Where GYDA was about being sexy and exposing skin without it going overboard, I feel like Ungrid is the opposite. Ungrid is all about layering and their pieces really show that. Their items show off the brands versatility to be able to mix and match items and create your own style of fashion. Where they both relate though is the fact that they’re aimed at casual wear.

For A/W 2012, Ungrid is focusing on what they refer to as American Traditional. It plays with the boyfriend fit but balances it off with girly aspects like lace and pearls. The whole concept plays off feminine styles mixed in with vintage style.

I fell for Ungrid items as soon as I somehow chanced upon Reika’s blog. Reika Yoshida is the producer for Ungrid. She really knows how to mix Ungrid stuff together to really make it her own style. I think just seeing the items in the runway video or even just looking at the items in the Ungrid store it may not interest many people. The real point that really grabs you into the brand is looking at how Reika and the staff wears it. Very inspirational and makes you want to add Ungrid items into your wardrobe to mix with your own clothes too.
