Fresh Soy Face Cleanser Review

Product Description

The Soy Face Cleanser from Fresh instantly whisks away everyday impurities and makeup—even mascara—without stripping the skin of essential moisture. Rich in amino acids, soy proteins support moisture retention, giving skin the appearance of elasticity and firmness while rosewater balances and tones the skin. Calming cucumber extract and nourishing borage seed oil enrich the formula, which is fragrance- and soap-free.

This product is extra gentle and ideal for all skin types. “In the early nineties, there was a buzz about the health benefits of soy, but no one was exploring its effects on the skin. We found that it is highly rich in amino acids, which help with cell turnover, and introduced soy to the beauty market in 1999.”—Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg, Fresh Founders.

Thoughts

Usually around holidays (I’m not sure if it’s available regularly) Fresh includes its signature cleanser and chapstick in a set. I had gifted the cleanser to my friend who ended up gifting the set back to me haha. Guess she enjoyed it enough to get me to try it too!

I usually have two cleansers that I use daily (3 if you include cleansing oil before I do another cleanse). One I use in the morning, another at night. In the morning I prefer to use a gentler one. I don’t want my face to be too dry when I apply makeup. Whereas in the evening, I prefer one that’s a bit more powerful on the cleansing part. With Fresh’s Soy Cleanser, I would recommend using it in the morning, because it was super gentle.

In fact, it might be just a tad too gentle for me. However, I think that anyone would really sensitive skin would enjoy this. If you usually experience redness from cleansers that irritate your skin, you might want to look into this one instead. It includes soy proteins for moisture retention, rosewater to balance you skin, and cucumber extract to calm it. The thing is, my preference is towards bubbly cleansers. Ones I can work into a lather really easily. With this soy cleanser, it looks like gel, but the consistency is so light that it almost seems to disappear when I try to work it around my face. I know that products that are more natural don’t bubble up very much, and maybe that’s the case with this cleanser. But because of that, I usually only limit it to morning use when I don’t feel like that’s a bunch of dirt on my face.

It also creates another dilemma for me. Because it doesn’t lather up very much and disappear as I work it into my face, I feel as though I’m using a lot more product. I can’t tell if it’s been spread onto every part of my face. So I squeeze more out to ensure that there’s actually enough. The way that I lather up cleanser is usually first just in my hand and then I apply the bubbles to my face so that I’m not being rough with my face. But I can’t do that with this cleanser.

There’s a very, very light scent. It might just be the natural smell of the cleanser actually, rather than a scent added. But it’s not really one I was particularly fond of. I expected a light, pleasant smell. I don’t even know how to describe the smell of this cleanser, to be honest. I don’t think it’d even be the smell I’d get if I grabbed soy beans or tofu and sniffed it LOL.

I know it seems like I’m bashing the product, but I’m really not, I swear haha! I think all the points I brought up (other than the scent) are all points for people with sensitive skin to give this cleanser a try. I haven’t experienced anything bad from the cleanser so I think if you’re just looking for a no-frills cleanser, give it a go. You can even buy it in a set with their lip treatment :)

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer Review

Product Description

This lightweight, oil-free facial cream is fortified with legendary skin-boosters like panax ginseng and coffee bean to jumpstart hydration levels. Lackluster-looking skin is rapidly refreshed and revitalized to create a healthy, vibrant glow.

Thoughts

Hello readers! Haven’t done a post for a while, hey? Being out of the house almost everyday during holidays and then school starting right after didn’t exactly make me want to sit and do a review haha.

But today I bring you another Origins review! This time on their GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer. So it contains two ingredients that are supposed to brighten up your face and not make you look as tired as you really are (Mondays, am I right?). Those two ingredients are coffee beans and ginseng. I’ve actually never used coffee beans in a moisturizer to brighten up my face. I have used it as a DIY exfoliater though. FYI, don’t do it, it’s too rough on the skin and made my skin really sensitive!!

GinZing reminds me of Skinfood’s Lettuce & Cucumber Moisturizer. A light gel, that instantly dissolves when you apply to your face. It faces a similar problem that I had with Skinfood’s moisturizer, it’s not enough to moisturize my face. Much better suited to summer-use than winter. I love that it seems to sink into my skin really quickly so that I don’t feel like I have a vat of oil on my face the whole day. The only thing is that the moisture doesn’t seem to be a long-term thing.

This is great for people with oily skin because if your skin feels like it’s not hydrated enough, it will produce extra oil. Being able to apply moisturizer that gives you the barely there feel will keep your skin hydrated, and informing your skin to not produce extra oil. However, I have combination skin and I do have dry spots on my face, especially during winter. Don’t even get me started on how the icy winds cause havoc on my skin!! If you have dry skin and it’s the winter time, you might not want to pick up this moisturizer unless you add some face oil to it.

What I love about this moisturizer though is the smell and feeling when you it on! Citrusy – like when you peel an orange. You know that smell that wafts into the air when you feel an orange? That’s what I feel like as I’m applying it to my face! Love!! And it has a bit of a cooling sensation too which is nice as a morning moisturizer to wake up you and your skin. Probably feels even nicer during the summer time?

The moisturizer comes in a heavy glass bottle. I really like it! The box, like other Origins products, is very simple – almost medicinal looking. Not really a big fan on that, but I usually recycle the outer cardboard box after I take out the product anyways so it doesn’t matter much to me.

So I recommend this product for anyone looking for a really light moisturizer – especially anyone with oily skin. Not oily, spreads great. It smells great and feels great on the skin. Not a lasting moisturizing effect if you have dry skin. Would I repurchase? I actually might during the summer when I’m feeling the most oily.

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment Review

Product Description

This ultra-hydrating lip treatment corrects and conditions lips for a smooth, youthful-looking finish. It is scientifically proven to repair the lips—significantly boosting moisture, enhancing volume, and improving the definition of the lip area. It is fortified with a high concentration of ultra-nourishing, age-delaying ingredients including hyaluronic spheres to penetrate the skin, fill in wrinkles, and plump the appearance of lips, and sea fennel extract to help smooth fine lines and define the lip area.

Thoughts

I think a few years ago Sephora gave away some Fresh lip balms as a part of their birthday gifts. It came in a pack with a tinted lip balm. For a while I was using it as my go to lip balm because of how smooth it is. It applies on the lip easily but I found that maybe because of that it also didn’t have a lot of staying power.

The lip balm has a scent but it’s one that I like. I don’t know if it is powerful enough to bother people that are sensitive to scents. I don’t smell it once it has been on my lips for a while. But because the formula is the way it is, sometimes I find myself licking my lips a lot which makes the product disappear faster and kind of defeats the point of applying lip balm in the first place lol! If I have really dry lips I feel like my lips are cutting the balm as I’m applying it and I find that I go through the product a lot faster.

I like that it is housed in metal and that the lid twists off. Once in a while lip products that have a pull off cap comes off by itself in my purse or else something heavy might cause a crack in the cap. It definitely makes the product feel more expensive to have it look like a lipstick instead.

Honestly the product claims to do a lot of things and I wouldn’t go so far as to agree to all of them. If you, however, just need a simple lip balm that has a smooth texture than you should try this out. If you tend to suffer from flakey lips or anything close, I would probably reach for a different lip balm that has better staying power (good ol’ Vaseline) until then. I still like to keep a tube on me when I’m at school because I don’t like to swipe Vaseline onto my lips with fingers at school (germs eek!!!)

Aritzia Black Friday Sale 2015

I’ve noticed an influx of visitors to my site lately looking at my Aritiza Clientele Sale post. I’m assuming everyone’s trying to find out what Black Friday deal Aritzia has this year.

Seems that everything will be up to 50% in their stores and online. Log in online with the e-mail address you usually give at the till or the one you usually use to purchase online at Aritzia to see the individual prices.

UPDATE (NOV 25, 2016): It seems that the discount is much like last year. Basically 10% off most brands on the site with 30-50% off select fall/winter items in the sale section.

UPDATE 2:
