Kami no Shizuku ;; Pride ;; Boys Over Flowers

Kami no Shizuku

Kanzaki Shizuku has a natural ability to judge good wine by its color, smell and taste, in a way that makes professional wine tasters jealous. The day his father died it was revealed that his will allowed only one of his two sons to inherit his fortune, and that son is he who wins the wine tasting test. Kanzaki would probably win, if only he hadn't sworn to never taste alcohol in his life ever again.

When I watched the first episode I thought it was going to be kind of interesting to watch. The more I watched though the less I paid attention to the subtitles because there was just so much information coming at me LOL. And I also feel a little detached from the drama because I haven’t tried these wines and I’m not really those wine fanatics. When they started describing these images or scents to me I just feel like nodding and then moving on LOL.

Didn’t really feel anything between the two characters either. Having Tomine’s younger sister there didn’t seem necessary. I thought she was going to stir up trouble, but she just appears randomly and then disappears into the background o_O.

Shio Asami, brought up in a wealthy family whose mother is a prominent opera singer. However, the bankruptcy of her father’s business forced her to give up becoming an opera singer. Midorikawa Moe entrapped Shio and claimed a victory in an opera contest. Depicts a competition of two heroines putting their pride on the line.

I think I watched this because of the actress, Mitsushima Hikari. When I saw her in Love Exposure I thought she looked really pretty. When I was seeing what movies there were and saw her starring in it I thought I would give it a try.

I don’t quite believe Stephanie as the wealthy, well brought up girl? And she seems very… emotionless. Maybe it’s her trying to be a very cold and put together character, but I felt like she was a little lifeless. She never loses her cool and even when she does I feel like there’s not enough emotions put into it. I find it hard to believe a person wouldn’t act out in any way when Shio Asami was constantly pushed down by Midorikawa Moe o_O. The only time I guess is near the beginning when she slapped Moe.

The movie, I’m thinking, is named Pride because it’s questioning how far would you go. Would you give up your pride to achieve your dreams? Or would you be too proud to bend even a little? The two characters showcase the two extremes where Moe is willing to give it up to be an opera singer while Asami feels like she’ll never budge from her spot even if she has no money and no status anymore.

Boys Over Flowers

Set at a famous high school for the super-wealthy, this is a puppy love story centered on a poor girl and the F4 gang of rich kids headed by the rough and fearless Goo Joon Pyo. Geum Jan Di is a girl from a poor family but has an unrivaled sense of optimism and drive and is by chance admitted to a prestigious private high school. There she meets the infamous group of four astonishingly good looking and rich boys who are known as F4. The group's leader is Goo Joon Pyo, who is a spoiled heir to world-leading conglomerate Shinhwa. He is joined by mysterious and breathlessly handsome Yoon Ji Hoo, So Yi Jung, and Song Woo Bin. Their love story moves from Seoul to New Caledonia to Macau.
Boys Over Flowers.. pretty sure everyone already knows about this drama and watched it too haha! I’ve watched a bit of Meteor Garden and I’ve watched all the Hana Yori Dango seasons, so this was my third go at this story. I think I read somewhere before that MG stuck to the manga the most out of the 3? I’m not really sure because I’ve never read the manga nor have I really watched all of MG. Fortunately, they all have their own take of the manga they’re based off of.

Where in HYD, Makino wanted to attend the prestigious high school because of a person whom she looks up to, Jan Di got in as a means to pacify the regular folk from an outbreak of war against the Shinhwa group by Joon Pyo’s mother (Shinhwa Group’s president). So right from the start they already try to separate themselves from HYD.

I enjoyed BOF’s take on the story, but initially I was getting really irritated by Jan Di’s constant yelling ::sweat:: . I never really got over it, but I guess you could say I grew more immune to it LOL. Yes, poor, independent girls in k-dramas always yell at the top of their lungs when they speak, but she was yelling at almost every sentence and really.. my poor ears couldn’t take much of it LOL.

BOF puts two seasons of HYD into one whole season, but I feel like the pace of things aren’t too different. The number of episodes are around the same when you add it up. BOF chose Macau as the destination where Jan Di and Joon Pyo met up again and HYD picked New York, I think. It was interesting to watch it take place at a whole different setting. I don’t really know who did a more ‘racist’ job at depicting each place though. I remember people weren’t happy about how HYD had two black guys try to jump her?? In BOF they had Jan Di get into a situation where it looks like the guys were going to take advantage of her on top of stealing her belongings ::sweat:: .

Ji Hoo’s role seemed a lot bigger here than in HYD so when Jan Di gets with Joon Pyo I feel disappointed. Common, how many times is Ji Hoo going to let her trample on his feelings?? LOL.

    1. HAHA ::^^:: ! Yeah that’s kind of a reason why I thought it was weird she took the wealthy girl role… I imagine a more delicate girl for that role.
